Dynamic schematic diagram of Horizontal Burning Test,Vertical Burning Test and 500 W (125mm) Vertical Burning Test

Horizontal Burning Test; UL 94HB (ASTM D635, IEC 60695-11-10, IEC 60707, ISO 1210)

The experimental method is to horizontally clamp one end of the test piece at a 45 ± 2 degree angle to the horizontal, take an iron mesh, fix it horizontally below the test piece by 10 ± 1mm, move the Bunsen lamp (flame height of about 20mm) at a 45 degree angle to the other end of the test piece, touch the sample 6mm, and wait for 30 ± 1 seconds before moving it away. When the test piece is burned to the 25mm mark, start another timer. If the mark of 25 mm is burned within 30 ± 1 seconds, start another timer and move the Bunsei lamp away.

Vertical Burning Test: UL 94 V-0, V-1, or V-2 (ASTM D3801, IEC 60695-11-10, IEC 60707, ISO 1210).

After the Bensheng lamp (flame height of about 20mm) contacts the center point below the sample and burns for 10 ± 0.5 seconds, move the Bensheng lamp away at a speed of 300mm/s, at least 150mm away from the test piece, and record the first self ignition time. After the spontaneous combustion stops, immediately carry out the second combustion. After burning for 10 ± 0.5 seconds, remove the burner and record the time of the second spontaneous combustion and the ignition time after the flame is extinguished.

500 W (125mm) Vertical Burning Test: 5VA or 5VB (ASTM D5048, IEC 60695-11-20, IEC 60707, ISO 9772).

The UL 94-5V test is more rigorous than the UL 94-V test and is divided into two stages. Firstly, place the strip sample vertically and conduct a combustion test. After passing the test, use a flat plate for testing.

Stage 1: Fix the test piece horizontally with a fixture or jig, move the Bunsen burner at an angle of 20 ± 5 degrees from the horizontal to below the test piece, and burn the tip of the flame in contact with the center point of the sample bottom for 5 ± 0.5 seconds. Then, remove the Bunsen burner for 5 ± 0.5 seconds and repeat this action five times. After the fifth combustion, remove it and observe and record whether the test piece has any holes or damages.

Stage 2: Keep the burner (flame height of about 125mm) at a horizontal angle of 20 ± 5 degrees and move it to the side of the test piece, so that the tip of the flame (height of 40mm ± 2mm) inside the flame contacts one side of the bottom of the sample. After burning for 5 ± 0.5 seconds, remove the burner for 5 ± 0.5 seconds and repeat this action five times. After the fifth combustion, remove it and record the self ignition time and the ignition time after the flame is extinguished.
